NOTE: Do NOT use Foundation Slabs as slab-on-grade - use Floors instead (so the edge will be solid, not thick dashed). Use Foundation Slabs for elevator footings, mat footings, etc.
WARNING: "Elevation at Top" and "Elevation at Bottom" parameters are given relative to the internal origin in Revit 2015 and 2016 (as of 2016 R2 Update 7), but they're "fixed" in 2017.2 (and previous?) to be relative to the Project Base Point. NOTE: "Elevation at Bottom Survey" and "Elevation at Top Survey" are parameters available to Labels in R2017+ Structural Foundation Tags (and Schedulable in the Project, but not visible in the element's Properties). See also Elevation at top label.
TODO: look into how the Slab Edge was modeled in "SENTRY ALOHA GENERATOR ENCLOSURE - Base File.rvt" #3533.03 2017-07-20: 4 separate elements? but beveled at intersections. BAD: line at top (not joined w/ slab?), no line at bottom; GOOD: can linework to look completely correct.
Don't use eccentricity for bearing footings because corner joins with non-eccentric footings will be messed up (they will extend past the edge). Use retaining footings instead.
Ideas
- Interior wall footings - sloped sides (thickened slab footing); need drop option, too
- Strip Footing without needing a Wall - better if any beam (can customize profile); "generic model-line based" workaround doesn't clean up nicely at corners
- other WORKAROUND (per morrish): "model in place struct foundation as an extrusion in plan view. Just set level, and tag so it is the same as your Strip footing." [TODO: evaluate]
- Wall foundation align to CORE centerline
- deep foundations [ARCHIVED] - not sure on actual intent of OP, but we need layers for ALL types of footings (not just Slab). [TODO]
- Foundation Slab - Automatic Slab Edge Join [ARCHIVED] - [TODO: check behavior]
- Possibility to add negative value to "Toe length" at the wall foundations - not sure on scenario where it would be useful...
- Dynamic Step Footings at Wall Depths - "the ability to have one wall with different footing depths"
- TODO: Retaining Wall Foundation specified by Toe (or Heel?) and Width only (so you don't need different types for different wall sizes, or at least don't need to do calcs with CMU widths to get the right size)
Troubleshooting
- Wall Foundations can sometimes have odd joins at corners when the Walls are at shallow angles (close to straight) such as 155~180°? The WORKAROUND (if the angle isn't too shallow - i.e. <166°? - which only allows a Miter connection?) is to try editing the wall join first, but if not, set the "Default End Extension Length" to be non-zero (in Type Properties, and drag in other ends if a 0 extension is really needed) OR use a Slab Foundation for ultimate control. See http://autode.sk/2zgMPjL[1]. See also Foundation Wall Footings at shallow angles have incorrect joins in Revit (Incident ID: 125402)
