ReCap Photo Frequently Asked Questions (only 42 cloud credits with ReCap Pro trial?)

Changing the position of scans wrongly aligned during the registration process in ReCap

Viewport / Render Settings - switch from perspective to orthographic/parallel view (easier to select points)

TODO: https://www.autodesk.com/campaigns/connected-bim-webinar-series# see On-Demand "Reality Capture Takes Flight - New features for UAV and drone processes"

Options

Aerial

Optimized for top-down views. Can be georeferenced. 1000 photo limit.[1]

Object

Optimized for hand-held / tripod shots. 300 photo limit?[1]

Aerial and Object reconstructions use different stitching algorithms. Aerial stitching algo is optimized for UAV style captures of land surface and supports geo-location. Object stitching algo is tuned to work with hand held/tripod based captures of objects and facades (where camera is closer to the subject and can go around it) - https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/recap/troubleshooting/caas/discussion/t5/ReCap-Forum/Recap-Photo-to-render-fresco-under-a-church-vault/td-p/7393806.html

Rotate Limit Box using Ctrl

Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't?: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/recap-ideas/limit-box-does-not-rotate/idi-p/7342888

Import to InfraWorks

Possibly use the DEM that's in the ZIP with the TIF: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/recap-ideas/new-file-format-usable-in-infraworks-360/idi-p/7345206

High accuracy not required when picking registration points for stitching

"When recap needs assistance registering scans we are offered two photo’s from which to select 3 common points."

ryan.frenz 09-13-2017 05:57 AM: "...remember that the points don't have to be that accurate, or even on a planar surface (at least for scans with enough overlap).  Just make sure they are within 1ft or so of the same one on the other side.

On suggestion from your screenshots - have you tried using the Map to select points?  It only works for scans at the same height - but in this mode you don't even have to click on real points - for example, you can click the center of a column (just eyeball it) or a corner that's only actually visible in one scan.  Just a thought."

Alt-Click to isolate scans

alt-click [on the eye] to isolate a scan; Alt+click on the eye again to bring all the other scans back: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/recap-ideas/bulk-turn-on-scans-as-easily-as-alt-click-to-isolate/idc-p/7374812#M1301

XML

I have found that importing the OBJ file into 3DMax then moving the file to MAYA then I can save the file as a XML and THAT I can import into Second life with my Singularity (64 bit) Viewer.: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/recap-ideas/xml/idi-p/7324117
