View References behave oddly when copy-pasting

  • Please note that when you copy & paste stuff from one view to another, then move the elements (while they’re still selected), View References will stay in their initial location. WORKAROUND: After initial paste, deselect the elements (click outside/Esc), then reselect them to move.
  • Also, when copy-pasting between views with different orientations (from a North view to an East view, for example), the View References will sometimes get thrown far away from the other elements being pasted in (and will remain there when moving the elements – see previous note, and screenshot below). WORKAROUND: If you notice that View References are missing when you paste a selection (you should also notice an unusually large selection box around the pasted elements), zoom out / zoom extents and move them back into place.
R2018 - View References behave oddly when copy-pasting

Placement and Insertion Point

When placing a View Reference, you can't snap (to the endpoint of a Matchline, for example) as of R2022.1, but you can snap to the insertion point while moving in R2020+ (seen in R2020.2.7 but not R2019.2.5).

TIP [R2020+]: place roughly, then move to get a precise & consistent position.

Also, you can't use the spacebar to rotate while placing, so you must use the Rotate command afterwards to adjust orientation.

NOTE: View Reference - Matchline.rfa also has "Down (no Text)" and "Up (no Text)" types (for convenience, if need to switch to configuration with text on the side later, see job # __).

2018-03-30: used separate family for text types (in project template) to minimize excess extents size
